I had to phone my mum and get her to check the old number plate that I still had in their shed...because nobody believed me!

For Fiesta Mk1, Sahara beige. Broke down on its first long trip up north. Fortunately I had just joined the AA, who managed to fix it - the radio had also packed in so I asked him if he could fix that too. He said he wasn't really supposed to, but go on then. He got it working again and just at that moment an advert for the AA came on which said, "At the AA we'll do more than fix your car...". One of those jaw-dropping, priceless moments.

All of them were built (or assembled I guess) In Minnesota weren't they?

It is not the truck I would have chosen, in a perfect world. It only had the baby 2.3 L inline 4. A lawnmower engine .My next car - an actual car - was bigger.

But it was very cheap for being relatively new when I got it.

Some people my dad knew from the Reserve (Reservation) got into trouble and had to sell it.

They had it all tricked out but sold all that stuff including the stereo separately i guess. So I was without a radio for a bit. Doing an 18 hour trip to the States to visit a girl was fun like that. It also had alarm that I think was partially removed and would go off randomly.

But no engine to speak of meant very good gas mileage and it held up very well for a Ford. So can't complain, overall.

A black Citroen BX, used to drive out to pubs in the sticks, get pissed and sleep (with the seats down) in the back.

There'd always be a sleeping bag, bottle of Vodka, some sort of mixer, a change of clothes and wash kit in the boot.

Those were the days.

That's amazing because I've had lots of cars and never spotted any again after selling them

An MG Metro, reg C127GOL. Was an insurance right off when I turned to eye up a young lady down at Walton On The Naze, and somebody pulled out in front of me.

Years later, about 10, I'd moved up to the Midlands, and took my nephews and niece to Drayton Manor. Walked past an identical car, took a 2nd look...it was mine. There was still a Moss alarms sticker in the window from when I owned it!

Rolls royce convertible.

Kept converting into a canary yellow mazda 323 though.

The battery bracket had rusted through (unbeknown to me), which, whilst taking the hairpin bend in southend at a gentle pace caused the battery to swing round and short itself out which blew all the fuses and sent a big cloud of smoke into the car from the dashboard. All the battery water caps melted.

Pushed it to the garage, put water in the batteries, plugged the holes with a torn up j cloth and put any fuses/bits of metal in the fuseboard and it ran for another year until I sold it to my ex who crashed it two weeks later and wrote it off.

Re: What was Your First Car?
Without boasting my first car was a BM.

Very reliable, drove it to Maine road the day after passing for a boring 0-0 and drove it up to the pre-season friendlies in Scotland for several years and it finally died at Norwich away back in the mid 90's. Needed oil, but figured I'd just write the cunts engine off to make kick off and get the AA home.

And unfortunately BM stood for Beige Metro, so it was no fanny magnet that's for sure.

I had a 1.6L Escort as my first car too. Red, A reg and I paid £20 and had a spoiler put on the back. Any 17 year old's dream.

I loved that car and that age.
